Electronic Arts has unveiled the music behind EA Sports FIFA Soccer 13. The soundtrack features a mix of genre-spanning music from 50 Gold/Platinum superstars and breakthrough artists representing 12 countries from around the globe. Industry newcomer Spectre Media has released a new video game based on Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions' Starship Troopers: Invasion. Executive produced by Casper Van Dien (Johnny Rico from Starship Troopers, Starship Troopers: Marauder) and Ed Neumeier (writer Starship Troopers and Starship Troopers: Marauder); produced by Joseph Chou of Sola Digital; and directed by Shinji Aramaki (Halo Legends), the game delves further into the new CGI reboot. NBA 2K13 isn't just going to have some great virtual basketball action, it's also going to have some great hip-hop beats to accompany your on-court hops. 2K Sports announced today a partnership with hip-hop impresario and part Brooklyn Nets-owner Jay-Z who will serve as Executive Producer for the 2013 version of the best-selling NBA 2K13 basketball game. The entertainment mogul and 14-time Grammy Award winner, whose real name is Shawn Carter, will focus his talents on the experience, from the overall look and feel of the game, to the hand-picked soundtrack, interactive in-game menus and even the crowd reactions.

Electronic Arts is gearing up for two years of warfare. The game publisher is offering exclusive beta access for Battlefield 4, the next entry in DICE’s award-winning shooter franchise, to players that pre-order Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition prior to the game’s launch on Oct. 23. Limbo is highly regarded as one of the best games on Xbox Live Arcade. It was first released in July 2010 on Xbox Live Arcade, but things could have been different. Sony Computer Entertainment executive producer Pete Smith recently said they lost out on the gem because they wanted the Limbo property. The game eventually made its way to PlayStation Network, but the publisher missed out on a big opportunity.

It’d be interesting to talk to the executive who green-lit a big $200 million budgeted film “loosely” based on the Hasbro board game Battleship…especially considering it’s bombing something fierce this weekend against the mighty Avengers movie.  (We’re not that surprised – it sucks horribly.)  For that matter, we’re trying to figure out why Activision, of all people, would jump at the chance to make a game based on the movie based on the board game.  No matter – like most movie-licensed fare, it doesn’t really get anywhere.

REYKJAVIK -- Thousands of EVE Online fans have converged on the island nation of Iceland located 65 degrees North of the equator and they were in for a treat as CCP Games revealed a lot more about their upcoming console MMOFPS DUST 514. During the DUST 514 keynote speech, CCP developers showed off a "Shock and Awe" style coordinated orbital bombardment of a DUST battlefield by an EVE player in realtime. CCP also showed off the orbital command center and surface command centers which enable communication between the two games as well as the orbital artillery that lets DUST players retaliate against EVE players in orbit. It was an amazing first look at what CCP is envisioning in its innovative EVE and DUST 514 hybrid gameplay. We talked to DUST 514 Executive Producer Brandon Laurino to get more insight and details about DUST 514 in this exclusive video interview.

Players of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), Rift, set the world record for the most in-game marriages in a 24-hour period. Officially recorded for the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, 21,879 marriages were confirmed between 9am PST, Feb. 14 and 9am PST, Feb. 15. Trion Worlds now adds this record to its record-setting online fantasy game, which has already earned over $100 million for the publisher.

Comic book legend Todd McFarlane, best known for creating Spawn, has teamed up with bestselling author R.A. Salvatore and MLB Hall of Famer Curt Schilling for a new series of videogames set in the fantasy world of Amalur. The first title, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, is an action role-playing game for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Games were everywhere as Sony showcased PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, Nintendo had its Wii U playable, Microsoft showed Kinect for Xbox 360 and PC, and game publishers had titles across all platforms, including tablets and smartphones. LAS VEGAS -- During his final keynote at CES 2012, Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer announced that the company has partnered with News Corporation to launch a series of new apps for Xbox LIVE that will feature content from News Corp.’s leading broadcast, news and Web properties. The apps will incorporate content — as well as voice- and motion-activated controls using Kinect for Xbox 360 — from brands including Fox Broadcasting Co. (FOX), Fox News Channel, IGN Entertainment and The Wall Street Journal.

LAS VEGAS – Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer did talk about games during his final keynote of the Consumer Electronics Show. The Xbox 360 has sold over 66 million pieces of hardware since it first launched in 2006, including 10 million in Q4 2011. Microsoft’s motion-sensor Kinect device has continued to sell well with an installed base of 18 million gamers. And Microsoft now has a robust community of over 40 million Xbox Live users.

Microsoft Studios is using CES 2012 to premiere its first flight simulator game in years. Although the physical location is in Las Vegas for the annual trade show, the new game is set in Hawaii. Microsoft Flight, a PC game that lets players jump into the challenge, fun, and freedom of flight, will be available as a free download this spring, giving players the freedom to fly the skies over the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii, complete a variety of exciting missions, test their skills in flying challenges, or find hidden aerocaches on the island.
