Sometimes a success story can be something as simple as making something in a garage -- and Steve Jobs proved that.  In 1976, he helped build the world's first personal computer, revolutionizing the industry as we knew it -- even though it would take years to get started.  Now, Apple is practically everywhere with all sorts of tech, one of the world's biggest companies.  But alas, it is now without its leader, as Steve passed away earlier today at the age of 56, after a long-standing fight with cancer.

RALEIGH, North Carolina -- 2K Sports has had success with NHL 2K11 on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. Now the sports video game maker is bringing the franchise to Apple’s popular iPad. Mike Rhinehart, senior brand manager at 2K Sports, who was at the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend in Raleigh, said that NHL 2K11 is coming to iPad with all-new features to take advantage of the larger screen and touch pad. 2K Sports cover athlete Ryan Kesler was at the 2K Sports booth at NHL Fan Fair to sign autographs and check out the NHL 2K11 bus.

Disney Publishing Worldwide has launched its Disney Epic Mickey App for viewing Disney Digicomics on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch on the App store. The first Disney Digicomic available in the app is “Tales of Wasteland,” which comprise six eight-page short comic stories that take place in Wasteland, an alternate world made up of Disney’s forgotten creative efforts. Users get a preview of Wasteland and feature characters from the upcoming Disney Epic Mickey video game, including Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s first cartoon star. Epic Games has released its Epic Citadel App, which is now available from the Apple App Store. The app showcases the technical capabilities of Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. In Epic Citadel, players navigate a fictional castle realm using simple controls and the innovative Multi-Touch user interface. Epic Citadel also features stunning visuals and special effects, with an environment inspired by Project Sword, Epic’s newest game.

Booyah’s popular location-based mobile entertainment app MyTown has ushered in more than two million to its rapidly expanding community of iPhone and iPod Touch users.  MyTown’s player stats and usage patterns have sparked interest from marketers as the population of the app grows more than 100,000 players each week and users spend more than an hour per day in the app, on average.

Nintendo of Japan has surprised the videogame industry by announcing a brand new portable gaming device, the Nintendo 3DS (working title), which will allow gamers to play stereoscopic 3D games without wearing 3D glasses. The new gaming system will debut at the E3 show in Los Angeles June 15th and will ship in Japan during Nintendo’s next fiscal year, which ends March 2011.

There’s a reason Apple uses videogames to advertise its iPhone and iPod Touch. Check out a TV spot here to see the marketing message. More than 30,000 games have been released in the iPhone App Store since its launch in July 2008. With titles that consistently dominate the Top Paid and Top Grossing lists, according to technology research firm Flurry, there is no question that the games category is the most lucrative category in the App Store. Peter Farago, vice president of marketing at Flurry, said a new report from his firm focuses on how Apple has affected the market share of U.S. videogame and portable game revenue since the introduction of games sold through the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch.

Macworld 2010 will host the largest face-to-face viewing of applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch devices, as well as the new iPad. IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2010, said attendees will also be able to test-drive over 100 of the hottest apps and connect directly with the app developers at the Mobile Application Showcase, featuring leading companies including TomTom, Tap 11, Bing, BeeJive, Square and many more. Additionally, both attendees and developers will be able to learn about developing and marketing their own apps at a series of iPhone-dedicated training sessions.

Gladiators are making a return to pop culture. Following the recent success of 300, which also had a PSP game, Artificial Life and Starz Digital Media announced the launch of the official mobile game for the Starz Entertainment TV series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand", which premieres on Jan. 22, 2010. The Artificial Life game, for the iPhone and iPod touch platform, will retail for $5 on the Apple App Store.

Actor Michael C. Hall stars in the new Lionsgate Home Entertainment Blu-ray Disc and DVD release, GAMER. The acclaimed actor is having a convergence moment. Best known for playing a serial killer who tries only to kill the bad guys in Showtime’s “Dexter,” Hall can be seen on the small screen as Ken Castle, a videogame tycoon who blends real people with virtual games, in GAMER. Hall has also gone virtual in Marc Ecko Entertainment’s and developer Icarus Studios’ Dexter videogame, which is out now on iPhone and iPod Touch. Hall took some time to talk about his latest movie and his first venture into videogames in this exclusive interview.
