Editorial: Does NBA Live 13 Stand a Chance Against NBA 2K13?

For the past couple of years, 2K Sports has literally dominated the paint with its NBA 2K series, starting with teaming up with Michael Jordan for NBA 2K11 and eventually other legends in NBA 2K12.  But now, EA Sports, a company that’s been out of the simulation basketball game since it scuttled its NBA Elite 11 project, is about to hit the hard court once again with the recently announced NBA Live 13.  The real question is, does it stand a chance?

According to new data from Raptr that measures playtime across its 10 million member gamer network, the Call of Duty franchise still dominates the first-person shooter market, despite EA’s major effort to challenge that position with the Battlefield franchise.  Based on automatically tracked gameplay data, Raptr users logged an average of 40% more playtime in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox 360 than Battlefield 3 on the respective games’ launch days, despite unprecedented gamer enthusiasm and a significant marketing push for the launch of Battlefield 3.

Review: Splash Damage's Brink Is A Lesson In Revolution With Shortcomings In Execution

I've been excited about Brink for quite some time. Since I saw the debut trailer I imagined it as an amalgamation of Team Fortress 2 and Mirror's Edge. After having about a week or so with the game, that marriage made in heaven is kind of there, and while the experience feels half-baked at times Splash Damage and Bethesda put out a solid attempt at trying to revolution the overly crowded first person shooter market.
