For a long time, EA Sports has been criticized for releasing yearly additions of Madden to its audience. Problems that have existed in the franchise have plague the franchise until now. Madden 13 releases on the brink of a new console generation and Tiburon Studios pulled out all the fireworks to go out in style. Madden 13 thoughtout everything that was dragging the series down, resulting in one of the most complete sports games in this console generation.

LONDON -- Team USA makes it back-to-back Olympic golds with a 107-100 win over spain, the same team they beat 118-107 at the Beijing Olympics in a similar down-to-the-wire thriller. LeBron James led the way with his great plays including a thunderous dunk in the fourth quarter in the tight game where Team USA only had a one point lead after starting the third and fourth quarters. Most of the Team USA ballers are also big gamers off the court including Kobe and LeBron. We talked to them exclusively about their gaming in these exclusive video interviews.

In a blockbuster four team, nine player trade between the Lakers, the Orlando Magic, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Denver Nuggets that matches the 1996 blockbuster trade for Shaquille O'Neal, the Lakers will finally get the big man that every NBA team coveted in Dwight Howard. While the trade still needs to be finalized this afternoon, the details of the trade are that the 76ers will get Andrew Bynum, arguably the second-best center in the NBA, along with Jason Richardson while the Nuggets would get Team USA forward Andre Iguodala and the Magic would get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Moe Harkless, Nikola Vucevic and three protected first round draft picks, one from each team plus two second round draft picks, according to SI.com. The Lakers would ask get Chris Duhon and Earl Clark. The Lakers did not have to give up Pau Gasol and will project a lineup that also includes Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash to form a "Big Four" that will match up to Miami's "Big Three" and the Oklahoma Thunder's young core of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. We caught up with Howard during NBA All-Star Game in an exclusive video interview to talk about his favorite off-court activity, video gaming.

If you know me I have been a long time college football fan, making every college game day a tradition like no other. Watching the Cal Bears run out of Memorial stadium on television or at the game has been a ritual on Saturdays and NCAA 13 enhances that. The franchise gets the college experience down to a tie and provides much more than a simple roster update.

Konami had a pretty killer show this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.  Though Castlevania: Lords of Shadow II was present in video form only, it did have plenty of other playable games to offer, including the Lords of Shadow spin-off Mirror of Fate for 3DS, Zone of the Enders HD Collection, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and Frogger Pinball.  But in the middle of all this was its next soccer champion, Pro Evolution Soccer 2013, or PES 2013 for short.

All aboard the hype train for NBA 2K13.  2K Sports' latest basketball simulation is just over three months from release, set to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 4th (and on the Wii U when it arrives at retail), and promises a bunch of changes that will certainly make it the most realistic one that the company's released. And to help push the hype further, 2K has chosen a trifecta of current NBA superstars to grace the cover, a step forward from the solo cover stars that graced it previously.  Surprisingly enough, currently crowned NBA champ LeBron James nor series favorite Kobe Bryant are amongst the three stars.

In just a matter of months, the new NBA season will kick in, and teams will challenge the recently championship crowned Miami Heat for superiority.  And in the video game world, the basketball war will heat up once more, with EA Sports’ returning NBA Live 13 going head-to-head against 2K Sports’ winning franchise, NBA 2K13.  We already did a news piece talking about the game in action, but now we’ve gone one step further, chatting with its producer, Erick Boenisch, about what to expect this time around.  Complete with game footage!

At one point in time, you couldn’t go wrong with Mario Tennis.  When it was first released on the Nintendo 64, it was a simple little party favorite, packing hours of addictive gameplay, especially if you brought along friends.  The game fared even better on the GameCube with Mario Power Tennis, featuring more great multiplayer options, as well as better graphics and court offerings.  But on the 3DS, Mario Tennis Open feels like it takes a stumble for the worse.  The core gameplay is still in the game, along with many offerings for single and multiplayer offerings, but it just feels like something is off in the serve.

Early this year, Bioware’s Mass Effect saga came to five year run. Rest aside the ending; the series is one of the most complete trilogies in video game history. There are two aspects that Mass Effect nails perfectly. The series was first to interweave choices all the way through the third and final installment captivating fans from start to finish. However, you can’t tell a great story if you forget to create the atmosphere for your game to breath in. The music in the game really doses shape Commander Shepard with it having one of the best scores in gaming, but do people notice? Do people look at soundtracks as a whole or as background noise?

I’ve been a big fan of Virtua Tennis for years, getting my start back on the Sega Dreamcast with several spirited multiplayer sessions and eventually moving on to other platforms to see what they have to offer.  Most recently, the series hit its stride on the PlayStation Vita with a modified version of Virtua Tennis 4, and though not all the modes were to my liking, the core gameplay and various other options delivered service with a smile.  So, tell me, why couldn’t Sega do the same thing with its iPad port of the game?

For the past couple of years, 2K Sports has been dominating the paint with its NBA 2K franchise, as 2K12 managed to sell well over five million copies, thanks to the help of a talented development team and, of course, a virtual Michael Jordan.  But the pressure is on this year, as EA Sports is bringing back NBA Live in a big way.  2K, however, isn’t breaking a sweat.  Live didn’t even make it to E3 this year, and the team had its own plans with NBA 2K13, which it showed to us behind closed doors.

Earlier this month, we reported on the story that 2K Sports was looking to launch its latest basketball sim, NBA 2K13, sometime in early October, and would have the game ready to hit the floor of E3 next week.  Today, 2K Sports confirmed the story, stating that its championship series would indeed be heading back to stores to once again dominate the paint.

A little while back, we posted a first look at THQ's upcoming wrestling opus WWE 13, by way of a leaked trailer that featured WWE champion CM Punk talking about a revolution.  But little did he know what kind of revolution it would bring from the game community.  Last night, the hype surrounding the game reached a fever pitch when the official cover for the game was revealed.  At first, General Manager John Laurenitis joked that he would be featured on the cover...but then CM Punk came down and officially unveiled how the final game would look.  Thank goodness.

THQ doesn’t appear to have much presence at this year’s E3 event, as there won’t likely be a Darksiders II car wash to go with last year’s Saints Row event.  No matter, the company will still be there, showing off the upcoming sequel featuring Death, along with the recently announced Company of Heroes II.  But now it looks like it’ll have an additional game in tow, the latest in its ongoing World Wrestling Entertainment wrestling sims, as a trailer appeared online hours ago – before being taken down – that announced the arrival of WWE 13 on November 1.

If you like baseball video games, chances are you’re doing one of two things right now.  You’re either heavily investing yourself in Sony’s dominating simulator MLB 12: The Show on PlayStation Vita or PS3, or you’re playing 2K Sports’ Major League Baseball 2K12, which actually fared pretty well considering how the series has been in a bit of a (pardon the pun) slide here.  But it looks like the competition may be whittled down, as 2K is considering letting its deal with MLB expire in 2013, though that wasn’t officially announced.

05.23.12

After a fiscal report that questioned the future of the Major League Baseball 2K franchise, we were wondering if 2K Sports had gotten a little soft, concerned about how they could compete with their main rival, EA Sports.  Well, we got our answer today with a nice tomahawk jam to the face, in the form of an announcement for NBA 2K13.

We love it when old-school games get a re-release, for a number of reasons.  The sheer joy that the games themselves bring, the fact that we don’t need to hook up an old-school console (from a dusty closet) and a blown-out cartridge to play them, the fact we don’t need to pay hundreds of dollars for the original game and instead invest just a few bucks to relive them…and the list goes on.  Sega has been well known as a company that loves their classic library, and over the next couple of weeks, they’ll prove it with five upcoming release packs for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

Electronic Arts never fails to showcase a strong array of third-party titles for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as other consoles each year they attend E3.  Last year was a huge highlight between such games as SSX and Mass Effect 3, but what does the company have to lean on this year?  Well, besides big sports hits like Madden NFL 13 and the upcoming Overstrike from Insomniac Games, we’ve got a few ideas as to what the company should officially announce at the show.  With that, here are our suggestions…

Bryce Harper, the 19-year old top ranked baseball phenom, will make has long awaited major league debut today for the Washington Nationals against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodgers Stadium.  Harper, the top prospect in the majors as ranked by Baseball America the last two seasons, will play left field and bat seventh. Harper was called up from Class AAA Syracuse Friday after the injury bug hit Mike Morse and Ryan Zimmerman. We caught up with Bryce before the season to talk about his experience thus far as a professional and his love of video games in this exclusive video interview.
