EA SPORTS and ESPN are once again allowing fans to cast the vote for the next Madden cover athlete. The Madden NFL Cover Vote campaign for Madden NFL 13 has officially kicked off. Last year, nearly 13 million votes were cast through ESPNSportsNation.com and ESPN mobile in both companies’ most successful cross-platform activation. Tenth-seeded Cleveland Browns running back, Peyton Hillis, trucked through the six week competition all the way to the ultimate end zone – the Madden NFL 12 cover. EA teased this news at the Madden Bowl in Indianapolis during Super Bowl week. Star Wars' popularity remains at an all-time high 35 years after the initial film's original release, with millions of fans still clamoring for the original adventures -- and a few for the prequel trilogy that started in 1999.  That popularity continues today with Star Wars Kinect heading towards release, and a 3D version of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace hitting theaters next month.  But leave it to a man named Casey Pugh to release a project that shows just how devoted fans are to the series, with a remarkable project that's just as watchable as the Star Wars films itself.

One of the first purchases I ever made when I got the original Xbox along with a couple duke controllers, was a little game developed by Bioware called Knights of the Old Republic. I was only ten years old at the time and it came out during the prequel Star Wars era. That was my first Bioware game and was immediately blown away with how great it was. It had an amazingly crafted storyline, great gameplay and had one of the greatest twists in video gaming history. It set up so many personal milestones for me as it made me into the Star Wars fan I am today.

Strong sales of Thor and the Star Wars saga on Blu-ray Disc (BD) prompted a 156 percent surge in U.S. sales of the format in the release week ending September 18, possibly pointing to brighter days ahead for the overall market for movies on disc, accordingto the new IHS report “Star Wars Shines in its BD Debut,” from information and analysis provider IHS.

Free-to-play online game publisher Gameforge AG has seen over 300 million registered users. Gameforge has seen rapid player expansion -- adding 100 million registered users since August 2010, or more than 8 million new users each month. The company expects further growth from upcoming products, most notably Star Trek - Infinite Space, which has been announced for 2011. Star Trek – Infinite Space is the first official browser game set in the Star Trek universe and will mark a new era for the genre in terms of visuals. The game company will be showcasing games at Gamescom 2011 in Cologne, Germany.

Using full body motions, players can live out the ultimate Star Wars fantasy, no controller required.

Rick Dean, a senior vice president at George Lucas’ THX Ltd. and resident 3D guru, spoke at the annual spring Digital Hollywood Conference in Los Angeles. Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming year. The Star Wars film franchise is getting a new lease on life with stereoscopic 3D conversion. LucasFilm and Fox will release Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace on February 10, 2012. Subsequent 3D versions of the five remaining George Lucas films will be released, likely one a year. With gamers still playing through LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, next on the horizon is the second massively multiplayer online (MMO) game Star Wars: The Old Republic from BioWare and Electronic Arts. Gamers will also be able to play LEGO Star WarsIII: The Clone Wars in 3D on Nintendo 3DS.

At Star Wars Celebration V, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that the complete Star Wars Saga will finally come to Blu-ray Disc with a worldwide release in Fall 2011. Season Two: Ancient Enemies is available at no additional cost to current Star Trek Online players. Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC—the largest publisher of science fiction in the world is excited to announce that Karen Traviss, who has penned number one bestselling novels in the Star Wars universe, as well as bestselling novels for the Gears of War franchise, will be writing the successor novel to Halo: Ghosts of Onyx in the first part of a multi-book deal to explore the Halo Universe in the wake of the final events of Halo 3. Halo novels published by Tor have sold over a million combined copies to date, and in 2010 Tor will also publish the first in a new Halo trilogy by science fiction icon Greg Bear. The highly-anticipated Xbox 360 video game “Halo: Reach” is scheduled to release September 14.

Just in time for E3 2010, German videogame publisher Gameforge has inked a worldwide licensing agreement with CBS Consumer Products to publish free-to-play (F2P) browser games based on the legendary science-fiction franchise Star Trek. Acquiring the Star Trek license marks the start of Gameforge’s global expansion, as the online game publisher begins development to bring the Star Trek universe to life in browser-based properties, beginning in 2011. The first games under the international licensing agreement will take players into the deep reaches of space in the Star Trek Classic timeline as well as the tumultuous and vibrant timeline of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) announced the development of Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, a free-to-play, action-packed virtual world for fans of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series on Cartoon Network. Developed and published by SOE, creators of the critically acclaimed kids’ game, Free Realms, and licensed by LucasArts, in conjunction with Lucasfilm, Clone Wars Adventures will launch online and in retail stores this fall. The new game will make its debut at E3 2010 in Los Angeles June 15-17.

Videogame publisher Atari and Del Taco, the nation’s No. 2 Mexican fast food chain, have partnered on a special promotion allowing eager fans early access to the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online game, Star Trek Online. Created by Cryptic Studios, Star Trek Online for PC is set to release on February 2, 2010 in North America and will feature the voice acting of both Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy as the two Spocks.
