About 20 years ago or so, we didn't have the luxury of the Internet for video game news, or videos to show us just what was happening in the industry and with gameplay.  We had to rely on good old fashioned magazines to tell us what was happening, publications such as Electronic Gaming Monthly.  Among one of the more popular magazines on the market was Gamepro, which catered to all audiences, casual and hardcore, in keeping folks up with the times of the video game industry.  It's been doing good ever since...but sadly, its days are numbered.

The summer is the season that everyone looks forward to... except gamers. Summertime has a reputation of being the worst time to be a gamer, as little to no quality games come out during this 90-day period. The main conception is that everyone will be spending a lot of their time on vacation, whether at the beach or perhaps in another part of the world. Luckily, that period of time is coming to an end as plenty of quality games are coming out, starting with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  That's usually the rule most video game companies abide by, though there are always those who set out to try something different.  Later this year (in the European market for now, but they're bound to go worldwide), both Sony and Nintendo will attempt to gain new buyers for their PSP and Wii systems by repackaging them for budget-pricing purposes.  While some see this an ideal opportunity for extra cash flow, we can't help but think that lowering their functionality to a bare minimum is the answer.

As part of its jam-packed press conference this morning from Cologne, Germany, Sony unveiled a new downloadable chapter for its action/adventure Infamous 2, being produced by Sucker Punch.  The DLC is titled Festival of Blood, and it features Cole McGrath in a whole new dark setting that you probably wouldn't have expected before.  Oh, yeah, and he's a vampire.  But is it overkill?

If you grew up gaming in the 80's like some of the Gamerlive.tv staff (you know, the old curmudgeons who constantly scream, "Get off my lawn!"), you might've remembered a game show called Starcade that used to air on TBS.  The video game-oriented show aired between 1982 and 1983, with Mark Richards and Geoff Edwards hosting episodes and guiding young players through high scoring challenges on arcade games.  The show continued to be a nostalgic hit over the years, and even managed to air on G4 for a couple of years.  Now, after spending a few years in hibernation, it's making a comeback...online, anyway.

With Comic-Con fast approaching (it practically starts in like three days), there's a lot of stuff happening in San Diego, including panels, game-related events (we're making a stop at the Sega Arcade for sure) and other special stuff, and we'll be attending as much as we can while trying to recover the morning after.  But if for some reason you can't get into the big show, relax -- there's something else happening that could easily soothe your nerdy appetite -- and that something is Nerd HQ 2011.

You gotta love people who don't get the video game industry sometimes.  I'm talking about the parents who can't tell if Call of Duty is a bad game for their kids, or the Senators who feel that not having a bold-enough Mature rating label is a cardinal sin, or the celebrities who brush off video games as nothing more than a "fad".  Some of these perspectives are hilarious, and very few manage to really raise a question.  However, a recent inquiry on the Today Show left us wondering...can you be too old for video games?

Video games are an international pastime. People the world over play them, and there are developers in quite a few countries. Making a game takes effort, but so does localizing it for people in countries besides where it was first released. Not every game is worth the effort, and even if the fans might think it is, there can be other things keeping it from being released. With that in mind, I bring you five games that should have been brought to the US, and why they weren't.

With L.A. Noire being the first video game ever to be featured at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, a lot of people were wondering if this is the time that video games could finally be accepted as art. Video games have come a long way since the days of the Atari 2800 with the gameplay, graphics, and storytelling much like how the film industry evolved from short films to being longer in length and having sound. Because of this, we have seen much more complex storylines and visual styles that have enhanced our experience. Though it may seem like the logical progression to become art, I actually believe it would be counterintuitive.
