“Deadliest Catch” Captains Abandon Discovery Channel Show, New Game Only Way to See Them

There’s Chaos at Sea, but the new season of the hit Discovery Channel show hasn’t even started filming. Come October 15th, when the new season of crab fishing begins, the seventh season of the TV series will be without Captains Sig Hansen and Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand and their boats, the Northwestern and the Time Bandit. All three of those captains and their boats will be in the new Deadliest Catch: Chaos at Sea Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii game shipping this November. Check out Sig Hensen’s exclusive video interview below.

Discovery Channel sued the Hillstrands for $3 million last month for not completing work on a spin-off show, “Hillstranded.” The spin-off show was partially filmed, but required voiceovers and additional interviews. That lawsuit led to the departure of three of the captains, including fan favorite Sig Hansen.

“We have been through a lot over the past year and unfortunately given the current situation with Discovery we are unable to continue participating in ‘Deadliest Catch,'” the three crab fishermen said in a joint written statement. “It has been a fantastic ride, and we wish the best to all of the amazing and supportive ‘Catch’ fans we have met over the years.”

“Deadliest Catch” was enjoying its best ratings in history thanks to the overwhelming support from fans, and the media, surrounding the death of beloved Captain Phil Harris last season. The seventh season of the show will air in April 2011. Gamers will still be able to compete against the departed captains in the new videogame, which blends simulation and action for a unique experience.
