For those who have played ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, fans of both games have been eagerly waiting for The Last Guardian, Team ICO’s third title. The game made it’s first appearance at E3 in 2009, leaving a lot of people to wonder just what kind of game this will be. The game was originally slated to come out during the holiday season of this year, but now that will not happen. The Last Guardian will be pushed back to next year, though no timeframe has been given.

The news broke on Playstation’s blog earlier today. Fumito Ueda, the game’s director and designer, had this to say, “I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release of timing of The Last Guardian, which is currently being developed, would be holiday 2011. However, to provide more challenging and better quality to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone it’s release timing.”

Hopefully it won’t be pushed back for too long, as fans of Team ICO’s first two games are really looking forward to this title. The good news is that they are doing their best to make sure that a top-quality product will be released, so just hold on just a little bit longer.

One other thing to note is due to The Last Guardian’s delay, the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Collection set to release on the Playstation Network will also be delayed. Expect both dates to be announced simultaneously.
