With The Avengers wrapping up production, the future of the individual superheroes that make up the collective is becoming clearer. Disney and Marvel Studios have set summer 2013 as the target for Iron Man 2 (May 3) and Thor 2 (July 26). With new movies on the way, the question remains whether Disney Interactive Studios will take over the video games for these franchises, as well as The Avengers. Sega has released games based on the first Iron Man and Thor film, as well as the upcoming Captain America.

Thor has made over $437 million and become an international blockbuster. But Kenneth Branagh will only serve as producer for the sequel. Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in the new film, which will take a new direction for the franchise.

Jon Favreau, who has another big summer comic book movie this summer with Cowboys & Aliens, won’t return to helm Iron Man 3. Instead, Shane Black, who directed Robert Downey Jr. in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, will team up with the actor to map the course of the third Iron Man movie.

Next summer will see The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man, which means Captain America 2 won’t be hitting theaters until summer 2014 at the earliest.

Thor made $437 million at the worldwide box office.
