LAS VEGAS — Last year at CES 2011, tablets were all the rage and they used the show as their coming out party. While CES 2012 was more evolutionary versus revolutionary for tablets, they were many bright spots in the tablet world especially for gaming. We roundup the best gaming tablets and tablet technology from this year’s CES in Las Vegas.
NVIDIA Tegra 3
Our first entry is not a tablet but rather the chip behind the tablet. NVIDIA made a big splash at last year’s CES with its Tegra 2 dual core processor. At CES 2012, NVIDIA upped the ante with the quad core Tegra 3, which the always excitable NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang points out is really a five core processor because of it’s “Ninja core” that manages the other four cores. While the Tegra 3 was announced prior to CES, it showed up in quite a few forthcoming Android tablets including the amazing Asus Transformer Prime hybrid tablet and Acer’s Iconia Tab. Huang showed some great games playing on Tegra 3 tablets as well as an incredible Splashtop THD demo showing Skyrim V: Elder Scrolls playing streamed from a PC to a Tegra 3 tablet.
